Preparations

Gear, permits, fitness, and water strategy for island walks.

Before dawn

Three doors into trail readiness

Skip the dense checklist essay. Open season fit, a tour length, or the region that owns your base — then pack for the day you will feel.

Daypack

Preparation as respect

Two litres minimum for exposed ridges, electrolytes, hat, sunscreen, rain shell, offline map, small first-aid, headlamp, cash, and a shirt suitable for temple gates. Showing up hydrated and realistic about time is how visitors treat both landscape and community well — gear lists look mundane until cramps rewrite the summit.

General trail mindset

Pace and paper

Fitness, permits, and people

Practice walking in heat with a loaded pack. Treat noon as a deadline for exposed crests. Know whether your route needs a ticket desk, a guide meeting point, or only a polite hello at an estate gate — write the driver’s number on paper. Digital-only plans fail in wet pockets.
